How this is worked out

Zakat is due at 2.5% of qualifying wealth that has been held for one lunar year, once that wealth reaches the nisab — the value of 87.48g of gold or 612.36g of silver. Most scholars in the UK advise using the silver nisab, because it is the lower of the two and so brings more people into paying: this page uses silver by default, and you can switch.

Prices are entered by hand rather than fetched automatically. A price feed that quietly breaks, or that quotes a different purity than the gold you actually own, would make your zakat wrong without telling you — and there is no honest fallback for that.

This is a calculator, not a fatwa. Pensions, mortgages, business assets and debts all have genuine differences of opinion attached to them. Ask the imam about anything you are unsure of.
